300 yards?? I've got my issued 308 sniper rifle so I can pick you off at at least 700yards givin the windage (and a good spotter ). Not good enough... I'll just use my M-4 with my m68 scope, or for just up close and personal things my glock 27(40mm). Got to love military training!! ;D I love you guys First off, if you re-read what I posted you would see that I said I can hit you in the EYE at 300 yards so where did the 700 yards come from? I guarantee you couldn't do that at 700 yards with a 308. Trust me...I have both a 7Mag and a 308 at home, and the 7Mag will shoot circles around the 308. The 308 is a heavier bullet with less powder to push it. It simply won't travel as far, ACCURATELY. Not saying it's not an excellent round, but there are far superior rounds to it. It's hard to beat a magnum with a regular round. Anyway we could get into some good conversations over guns. I love to shoot! I have shot the 7mm before and it is a nice weapon hands down. I like my 308 alot better in the field because all snipers shot the 308 (7.62)with the leapold mark four 10 power scope. The weapon has a short range action, but we put in a long range action. We can put 5,ooo rounds down range and then we have to change out bolts. The max effective range on my 308 is 800 meters. I can get you documented cases where a USAF sniper had a confirmed kill at 1200 meters with his 308. My mistake with the yards/meters mix up . We do range e with meters insteads of yards. We can go to a field/range sometime and you bring your 7mm and I will 1297 my 308 and can see who has a tighter group! ;D Love ya, mean it

I haven't shot in a while anyway. We can go out to beach fork. They have a range out there with a 100yard shot. I'm not saying the 308 isn't accurate. It is and it's a cheap round...which is why the military uses it. I'm just saying it won't shoot farther than a 7Mag. The advantage the 308 has over the 7mm is the knock down power. It's a heavier bullet (30 cal. compared to a 27 cal.) which means when it hits it's target, it should do more damage. The 7Mag's disadvantage is that it's a lighter bullet with a shit load of powder behind it which makes it move very fast. At relatively close range the bullet needs to hit something solid or it won't do enough damage to stop the target because it moves so fast through the target that the bullet doesn't have time to dissipate enough energy. That's kind of why I want to trade it in on a 300 Mag. It's a 30 cal. round with a shit ton of ass behind it. I had a bullet go right through a deer last year from a close range shot and I didn't get it. With the 300, the sheer brute of the bullet hitting the deer will knock it down. BTW I'm sure you will out shoot me, you do it all the time. I do it one time out of the year.

forget a .30 cal, go with a .50 cal. I am sure you have seen that video of a scout sniper sniping peps off in the desert. Their effective range is 2500 meters. Kicks like a mule too. I was lucky enough to squeeze off 3 rounds when I was there. OMG!!! Wouldn't like to lug it around though. ;D
